Ponyrides is the dream child of Eloise Greene. Eloise has been riding for over 30 years, she has competed in dressage, show jumping, showing, eventing and endurance. She trained under great competition riders like 3 times Lady Rider of the Year winner Leanne Chambers, Errol O'Brien and NZ Olympic representative Colin McIntosh.

"For as far back as I can remember, it was my dream to have a pony." It felt like an eternity until I finally had that opportunity with a sweet natured mare named Lady Jane." It was only five months before she outgrew this pony and purchased her dear pony Mascot. A thoroughbred, who had been deemed "too nuts" for racing, flipping over in the starting barrier.

However, after popping over a few small jumps, with only five months of consistent riding under her belt, she naively decided to enter a Horse Society Show Jumping competition. On arrival, she found that the jumps were huge and she was the only child competing. Her mother thought they should just drive back home. Yet she was determined to give it a go. To her amazement, and everybody else's, she won every event of the day. By the end of the week she was jumping 4ft and went on to win every trial for the North Island Show Jumping Championships and be shortlisted for the Olympic training squad at only 14.

Eloise saw a long and prosperous journey with horses, however sometimes life throws you curve balls, and by the time she was 15 years old she was homeless. It would not be until many years later that she would rekindle this passion, buying a sweet little mare Ariana for her daughter. It was during this time that Eloise studied for the Bachelor of Applied Science (Equine Studies).

Years later, as a solo mother of five children (now 6), emerging from a domestically violent marriage, Eloise would start her equestrian business.
Her children were convinced they were going to starve. Everyone thought she had lost her marbles, that she was a "dreamer". She had no money, and no plan. She simply made a split second decision to quit her job. Realising that there was never going to be an ideal time. And it was now or never to pursue her dream. All she had to start the business was her daughter's now aged pony, that had not been ridden in years. However she managed to scrape somehow up enough money for a sign and a do it yourself website. And, after two weeks of handing in her notice, she was in business.

These days, Eloise enjoys training and schooling clients horses, as well as teaching both children and adults. She is passionate about developing inspiring ways of teaching riding. As well as how horses and ponies can help children, both physically, emotionally and behaviourally. She also has a special interest in horse therapy, with reports of sometimes with miraculous results, she would like to see more research into the area, and one day, develop a holistic programmes for children and their families.

As someone who yearned for a pony over her childhood and many of her adult years. Eloise would like to see pony experiences to children who might otherwise not experience her passion. After hearing many children come to the farm saying "all there dreams had come true!", this has become the Pony Rides motto. After all Eloise longed for a pony and now she has several!

Eloise is looking forward to experience many more great adventures and dreams come true, as she aims to revolutionise what can be achieved for both horses and riders, far beyond the scope of traditional 'riding lessons'. Yes she will be called a "dreamer" as she has many, many times before. However I would watch this space. With the obstacles she has overcome and an over-riding passion and commitment who knows what amazing things the future may hold. After all, who ever achieved anything great proportion without having a 'dream' that everybody thought was 'ludicrous.' After all it is Pony Rides, and dreams really do come true!
